Is Costa Rica open for tourism?

Costa Rican borders are open and a COVID-test is no longer required to enter. In order to continue receiving internationals, the Costa Rican government is taking careful measures to avoid contagion within its borders.

WHICH ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS TO COSTA RICA?

There are no quarantine requirements in place for anyone who enters the country who is not exhibiting symptoms of Covid-19.

There are a number of requirements that you must meet to enter the country. Here is a list of what you need to do before getting on the plane.

  • Complete the digital form Health Pass 48hrs before boarding. It must be completed by every person, including minors.

  • Purchase travel insurance, covering accommodations in case of quarantine and medical expenses due to COVID-19. In case of international insurance, the tourist must request from their insurer a certification issued in English or Spanish, noting at least four conditions:

  1. Person name.

  2. Validity of the effective policy during the visit in Costa Rica.

  3. Guarantee of coverage for medical expenses in cases of pandemic disease COVID 19 in Costa Rica, for at least USD $50,000 (fifty thousand dollars of the United States of America).

  4. Minimum coverage of USD $2,000 for extended lodging expenses due to quarantine

HOW IS THE COVID SITUATION IN COSTA RICA?

Costa Rican officials announce that restrictions within the country will gradually decrease according to the cases of covid.

Despite having freedom of mobility between different cities and states, there are certain measures that have been taken that you must be aware of:

GENERAL RESTRICTIONS:

  • The use of a mask is mandatory inside every establishment. It must cover your nose and mouth.

  • It is important to always maintain a physical distance of 1.8 meters with people who do not belong to your social bubble.

  • Vehicular restriction: For all provinces, cars can only circulate between 5am to 10pm, does not apply to tourist on rental cars.

Within the city of San Jose from Monday to Friday, the finished plates cannot circulate in:

  • Monday: 1 and 2.

  • Tuesday: 3 and 4.

  • Wednesday: 5 and 6.

  • Thursday: 7 and 8.

  • Friday: 9 and 0.

  • Public transport: Continues normally, the use of masks is mandatory throughout the trip.

  • Regulation of establishments: Hours of establishments throughout the country are Monday through Sunday from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm.

As of June 12th, about 37% of the population has received their first vaccine dose.
